On Thursday afternoon, Liberal Democrat MEP Baroness Sarah Ludford will be presenting a petition to the Malaysian Ambassador to the EU, His Excellency Dato' Deva Mohammed Ridzam.
The petition concerns the case of David Chell, a Briton on death row in Malaysia convicted of drug trafficking. Since his arrest, David has disputed the charges and continues to protest his innocence.
His case has been taken up by the British based organisation Fair Trials Abroad due to the unacceptable conduct of the investigation and court case. He has also been the subject of an Early Day Motion in the House of Commons (EDM no 960).
The petition has the signatures of 40 MEPs to date and is growing daily. Signatories include MEPs from the four main political groups in the European Parliament and from a number of different countries.
Baroness Ludford will be presenting this petition with Stephen Jakobi, Director of Fair Trials Abroad, demanding that the case be taken to a superior court and the due course of justice is carried out.
Petition Presentation, Thursday 8th March, 3:30pm
Malaysian Embassy, Brussels.
