Baroness Sarah Ludford, London's Liberal Democrat MEP, has helped local businessman Paul Gregory win a victory in his quest for justice in Europe over loss of trade due to unfair practices by a multinational company.
Baroness Ludford persuaded the European Parliament's Petitions Committee to press the European Commission competition department on why they dismissed Mr Gregory's complaint of anti-competitive behaviour by Dynopack in the late 1980s. He maintains this company stopped supplies to his firm MOL, undercut him and forced him out of business.
She said: " I'm pleased the committee overcame its initial reluctance to pursue this matter. I believe that Paul Gregory got a raw deal from the European Commission, which needs to explain why it did not regard the complaint as valid. It's essential that smaller companies as well as big ones are actively protected by European fair trade laws."
