When thinking of London's transport, many people think first of congestion, over-crowding and pollution. But ensuring transport is accessible should also be a priority for people with mobility problems including parents with children and those who are elderly or disabled.
Sarah Ludford, London's Euro-MP, is keen that in 2003, European Year for People with Disabilities, more steps are taken to give all Londoners the transport system they deserve.
Most recently Sarah has written to the Mayor urging him to keep accessibility high on the list of priorities when considering the review of the "Conditions of Fitness" for London black cabs.
Said Sarah:
"Work to make more tube stations accessible, and introduction of new buses as well as maintenance of high standards for our cabs must all feature in our transport plans.
"London needs world class transport, and all Londoners deserve to be able to use it."
