London's Conservative and Labour Euro-MPs have been asked to display a united front with Liberal Democrats in opposition to a war against Iraq.
Sarah Ludford MEP has written to London's five Conservative and three Labour MEPs inviting them to join her on the 'Stop the War' rally in London this Saturday. She said:
"I have rarely come across an issue which united so many people across party lines. While there is a strong desire to see the pressure on Saddam Hussein maintained in order to promote disarmament, an overwhelming majority also believe that we should not be rushing headlong towards a war."
"People rightly want real proof - not misleading spin - that Iraq poses a direct and present threat, but that proof is so far absent."
"I urge my colleagues in the other major parties to join the thousands of people from the London region who will be there on Saturday with Liberal Democrat leader Charles Kennedy to make their protest against Britain joining a pre-emptive strike on Iraq."
