Crossrail consultation - Sarah Ludford MEP calls for minimisation of adverse effects

October 27, 2003 12:00 AM

Crossrail, a planned new rail line connecting East and West London, is now drawing to a close stage two of its public consultation. The overall aim of Crossrail is to tackle the lack of capacity and congestion on the existing network, and to improve rail access into and within London. Sarah Ludford MEP contributed:

"I support Crossrail in principle as it is a very important transport project for the capital. However, I am concerned to minimise any adverse effects on residents, including from the actual construction.

"I am particularly concerned about any damage and destruction to the Westlands area in Romford which would occur with the building of the maintenance depot; many local residents have contacted me to voice concerns surrounding the possible loss of a valuable public amenity.

"Please ensure due consideration is given to the points raised by local residents in the drafting of the hybrid bill."
