London's Liberal Democrat Euro-MP Baroness Sarah Ludford attended Barnet's Holocaust Memorial Day Commemorative Service this weekend in the company of Liberal Democrat London Mayoral candidate Simon Hughes MP, GLA member Baroness Sally Hamwee, and local colleagues.
Baroness Sarah Ludford expressed her strong support for Holocaust remembrance, as both a tribute to the memory of Jewish and other victims of Nazi evil and a reminder of the continuing need to battle genocide, persecution, prejudice and discrimination.
"We cannot say we have overcome these terrible threats. The Rwandan genocide took place just 10 years ago, ethnic cleansing was widespread in former Yugoslavia, and savage attacks are perpetrated against people in many countries because they are from an 'enemy' tribe, religion or community.
"Even in Europe, we are seeing anti-Semitic violence, islamophobic prejudice and intense discrimination against Roma. An annual focus on remembrance reminds rather than absolves us of the need for constant vigilance."
