A nail-biting second round match in BBC2's University Challenge has seen London Metropolitan University proceed to the next stage of the competition.
After a close fought battle with the team from the University of Durham, London Met won with 150 points to 140, with the contest ending just as Durham tried to answer bonus questions which could have given them the victory.
London's LibDem Euro-MP Baroness Sarah Ludford is delighted to see London students triumphing again following Birkbeck's victory in the last series. She says:
"London is a great city proving its reputation as home to a wealth of learning. Our students are a great benefit to our capital, and are doing us proud.
"Having already defeated Tony Blair's old college (St. John's, Oxford), London students have now routed the university near his Sedgefield constituency - though rumours of BBC bias are unfounded!
"The Prime Minister needs to learn the lesson that loading our students with fees and debt is no way to reward them for their achievements."
