Sarah Ludford MEP with Tommy Lapid
"London Liberal Democrat MEP and member of Liberal Democrat Friends of Israel, Baroness Sarah Ludford, enjoyed hearing Tommy Lapid speak at the annual dinner of the Anglo-Israel Association (November29th). Former Israeli justice minister and deputy prime minister, Tommy Lapid is leader of Shinui, the third largest party in the Knesset and political ally of the Liberal Democrats in Liberal International.
Sarah commented: "It was deeply encouraging to hear him speak optimistically about the prospects for a peace settlement with the Palestinians, as Israel's 3 biggest parties all go towards the March general election on a platform of negotiations for a two-state solution. But he also spoke emotionally about the roots of his Zionism and determination to see a national home for the Jewish people, forged as a 13-year old Holocaust survivor."
