The Today Programme: There is a tricky letter waiting for an answer in the in-tray of US secretary of state Condoleeza Rice. Jack Straw has written to her in his role as the European Union spokesperson, Britain of course holds the EU Presidency at the moment, asking about the allegations that the CIA has been flying terrorist suspects to secret prisons in Eastern Europe. Sarah Ludford is a Liberal Democrat MEP and peer and a member of the European Parliament's Civil Liberties committee.
Sarah Ludford: As Condoleeza Rice's spokesman has already said that the US has broken no laws, I'm not sure what this is really going to achieve. What I want is an on the spot investigation by EU governments, acting collectively to sponsor a really effective and in-depth investigation in all EU countries where CIA flights or facilities are rumoured to have existed.
