London Liberal Democrat MEP Baroness Sarah Ludford has hailed the 60% cut in mobile phone 'roaming' charges as a huge success for the EU.
Figures show that EU legislation has been successful in lowering the average cost of making calls in Europe from an average of 77 pence a minute to 34 pence a minute. The cost of receiving a call has also fallen from 37 pence a minute to 16 pence. Commenting on the news Sarah said:
"This is another victory for consumers across Europe. Mobile phone companies can no longer charge extortionate rates for British people who use their phones abroad. Now British holiday makers can phone home without having to worry about getting ripped off."
