The EU's highest court has upheld the a European law passed by the European Parliament to force mobile network operators to reduce the amount they charge for mobile phone roaming within the EU.
London Liberal Democrat MEP Sarah Ludford said:
"MEPs rightly stood up for European consumers and demanded a 'price cap' on the amount mobile phone firms can charge British tourists and businesspeople calling home from abroad. I'm glad the outrageous bid by Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange and O2 to restore overcharging has been roundly rejected."
"This judgment by the European Court of Justice shows that Europe is on the side of customers in the face of big corporate interests who had grown accustomed to ripping off thousands of Europeans every summer."
"Once again, MEPs and the EU as a whole are looking after the interests of Londoners, making sure we get value for money on our phone bills."
