On the 5th anniversary of the 7/7 London bombings, Liberal Democrat European justice & human rights spokeswoman and London MEP Sarah Ludford said:
"Today is a sombre day for London, five years on from the most deadly terrorist attack our city has ever experienced. Londoners' thoughts are with the victims, our enduring sympathy with the brave survivors and families, and our gratitude recalled to emergency service workers."
"London really came together that day across communities, race and creed; the sense of 'One London' was palpable. We also had massive solidarity from our European neighbours and allies."
"It is thanks to the heroic persistence of the bereaved families that the coroners' inquest at last taking place into the deaths of the 52 victims will look into alleged intelligence failures and examine whether any lessons need to be learned from the emergency services operation."
"The terrorist threat has not gone away, so we must remain vigilant. But counter-terrorism must involve more than transport security and mass surveillance. Casting suspicion on all Muslims is not only wrong but unproductive, since respect and engagement with the majority of British Muslims is the only way to isolate terrorists."
